Sore vent
« on: January 11, 2009, 12:46 »
One of my ex-bats has a very sore vent - a little scabby and swollen and sor looking.  I'm just about to wash it and sudocrem it (followed by purple spray).  She is laying (I found an egg with streaks of blood yesterday).  Should I keep her in isolation or put her in with her mates?

Thanks

Rae

Hi Rae

When you say swollen does it look as if its sticking out rather than in ??

I would think once you've sprayed it extra so long as it's not prolapsed she should be ok with the others. If it's prolapsed then best keep her away from the others to stop them pecking at her :)

If you'll forgive the expression it looks a bit " pouty" and split !  Best way to describe it is it looks like a split lip. Nothing appears to be out that should be in!  It's all clean, creamed and sprayed.  She's in the broody coop at the moment.  She's eating and drinking OK and is bright and interested in everything (especially the silkies that have the run of the garden).  Out of the 8 ex bats she still looks most tatty and her feathers haven't grown back as well as the others.

OH was dying for someone to ring and ask for me so he could tell them I was washing a chicken's bum!  Makes a change from ministering to cats I suppose.

Thanks

Rae (with purple hands, jeans and floor)
