Hello all,

Quick question yes i know more :? You poor things

Anyway i have never grown garlic before and i was wondering if it looking okay.  I have no idea what type of garlic it is as i had some wrong looking garlic cloves left which i had previously bought from Sainsburys, so i chucked them in a pot with some manure. Just thought i'd see what would happen, yes i'm daft.

1) How do know when the garlic bulbs have split?
2) When to harvest them?

Well, they don't look like going to give you much of a crop, do they?

More like garlic chives, you could use the leaves like that.

No harm in wait and see, of course, but AFAIK, there should be a lot of foliage developed during spring to have good bulbs.

Thanks Gobs, I have just bought some garlic from Home Bargains and was wondering when to plant it?

Guess my supermarket experiment didn't work then ah well.

Plant some in the autumn, if you like it, you will need a lot more, too, really easy to grow.

I grow some in an old rain butt. It had a crack and was a bit past it's sell by date so with a saw I cut it into 2 halves. I made a few drainage holes and filled with compost. I can move it around to suit the weather if I need to and get some terrific bulbs in the autumn. I plant 25 cloves in each half by the way !
