A hint of summer
« on: February 12, 2010, 12:38 »
At the moment I'm working my way through my extensive chutney and pickle collection, thanks to Val's book. I've tomato relish in my sandwiches today - a small hint of last summer's crops.
I would recommend everyone to use up your surplus crops like this - it is very cheering on a miserable February day.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

I'm down to my last jar of chutney :ohmy:I gave too many away at Christmas, I'll have to make a very early one this year. Heyho the rhubarb will be ready in a few weeks.

We had Lobster salad for dinner this evening.  Reminded us better things are to come.  Got a big bog down with all the heavy stew, curry type things.  Paul went to the fish counter at T@co and she was washing down to close up for the night and offered him the last two lobsters (worth £10 each normally) for a fiver the pair or she was going to throw them away!
