Not to shake hands or fetch a ball, but maybe to grow upwards instead of sprawling all over the place. I've got some pretty stout sticks - about walking stick thickness - I could use.

Maybe tie up a stick and cut the end out when it becomes too big?

They just take up so much room that could be used for other stuff.

I didn't even know a sprawling courgette was available. We have only bush types here, and they still take up a lot of room with their huge leaves and their 'ah, you blinked' baseball bats.
