Potash
« on: March 05, 2013, 21:41 »
Dear all,

I have a number of buckets of wood ash, I plan to grow beans, cabbages, potatoes, onions, peas and root veg. Which bed should I put it in?

Thanks

potash is good for tomatoes and as potatoes are  from the same family give it to them plus the slug don't like it

If you want mild onions, use it for them as well ;)

Mum - I know this is the case and dont doubt the info it at all.  But....  last year I planted mine where I had huge bonfires with all the clearing of my new plot and had spread the ash all over where the onions went in. They are the hottest I've ever grown and really hard and keeping so well. I love hot onions - they gotta taste like something - not for wishy washy softies...  :D  :D  :D

Perhaps a thin sprinkling over everything, rather than a bucketful on one bed ?
Sometimes my plants grow despite, not because of, what I do to them.

That's what I've done with some of our wood ash, I paused for a minute before tipping it on and then thought oh what the heck, I'll try it and see.
