Sunflowers

Hi

Do I just cut the heads of my sunflowers or do I cut them all the way to the ground?

Many thanks
Bye

I am no expert but I cut the heads off, saved some seed then left the rest of the heads on a wall for the birds. I pulled the stalks out of the ground, broke them up and put in compost bin. CC

Leave them over winter for the birds then pull them up :)

I've chopped the lengths up into 2' and left them for ladybird winter hotels!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I pulled my sunflowers up and left them (in the woodstore) to dry for a year and found they made fantastic stakes - I had to cut them with a hacksaw!

Great idea from Yorkie though... I'll have ladybird and bee houses coming out of my ears next year :)

The birds did not bother with the sunflower heads that I put on the wall at home so I moved them onto the bird table and they are eating them now. They have finished the heads that I left on my allotment fence. CC
