I planted this two weeks ago the leaves little bit brown on the edge will this be okay

I planted a gooseberry bush 3 yrs ago, good crop last year, again this year but also the sawfly found it. When I noticed the little green grubs I started spraying them with soap and thought I was killing them, but eventually they overtook my efforts and stripped the leaves.

A few miles away, relatives have had several gooseberyy bushes for many years - with no sawfly! Where's the justice?

I planted garlic under my bushes about three years ago as I had a few cloves left over, they never got harvested and now grow like little clumps of grass. I have not had sawfly since the garlic was planted there.
