Onion Planting - Help needed.
« on: September 16, 2008, 20:37 »
I have white rot in my allotment

However I do have a bed which I dug out two spades deep last year and used the soil to raise other beds. I filled 3/4 depth with horse manure and top 1/4 with a mix of cheap (Wickes) compost and sieved topsoil. This year I grew courgettes in that area, too well.

Has anyone any ideas as to whether I could plant my overwinter onions and garlic in this area or would it be too rich.

It is extremely well drained as you can imagine.

I'd give it ago if it was me, I don't think the rich soil would be a problem for them.

I'd agree, rich(i)ness is no problem for alliums.

About the white rot, you'll see, hopefully you only need about a foot plus away from infected ground, but that's only one of these useless theories, hope it works though.
