Seaweed
« on: April 14, 2009, 09:12 »
I'm up in Manchester and we don't see the sea too often in these parts; so, on a family trip to Littlehampton, I filled a carrier bag with seaweed for my compost.

After being in the boot for four days, it certainly smells like it will be good for the garden!

My question: I have spread it over the top of my compost as a layer, but would I be better to give it a good turning to mix it up a bit? (This heap is a mix of about 80% 'wet' kitchen waste and 20% woody cuttings...

Cheers,
Andrew

The basic rule of compost heaps is that the more often you turn it, the faster your heap cooks down to useable compost. So go for it :)

Thanks Trillium, I'll give it a good forking.

Ok, ok, sorry... I'll give it a good mix up.

Cheers!  :)
