Chicken poo & planting spuds
« on: April 10, 2012, 17:59 »
Planted all my spuds with a mix of compost with a bit of chicken poo manure. Just read that this could cause blight? Is this a given or just a chance/theory? Help am I gonna lose the lot to blight? X

Having picked myself off the floor.........

Blight is wind bourne and overwinters on live plant material.

Buried chicken manure pellets fulfill neither of these two conditions.

Yes, it would be interesting to know where you read it!

Thinking on...

You're not confusing blight and common scab are you?

Manure can certainly be a conrtributary cause.

Id be more worried that foxes would dig holes looking for said chicken!
Political Correctness-a concept based on the idea that its possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Last week I threw a couple of handfuls of pellets around the base of my rhubarb and woke up next morning to find half of it flattened by Mr Fox looking for the chickens "hiding" under it!
