(Was quite looking forward to going round and snapping at the scantily clad males).
I like that idea. Could go for wildlife in general. Insects, spiders, snakes, komodo dragons, etc.

Not spiders, poultrygeist, I'm phobic
Not spiders, poultrygeist, I'm phobic
I'm phobic too ...but I'd photograph one for a prize :D
There's a few good contenders in our small shed. :?
How about an Autumn theme for October ??
Something that symbolises Autumn and all things Autumnal ??
Rob 8)
I was going to say autumn as well and the rest of the seasons take up 3 months for the coming year.
Wild life , then spiders could sneak in under the door, as to say.
Still open to ideas everyone - I've got prizes organised
How about you take a photo of what 'Autumn' is for you (with a caption)? Perhaps it's what you see and then think 'gosh it must be autumn'. It could be a particular tree going brown, certain hand reared ducks * off to warmer climes or in my case, the Manchester ship canal coated in leaves.
 Genius ! :D
You've been missed.
Is it David Blane ??
And I see you're going away AGAIN !!
Are you mad ?????
We live a fairly stress-free life because we never go further than Tescos.
You need 8 months to get your strength up. :)

A photo of a recipe made using home-grown ingredients, and post the recipe as part of the competition entry too.
Quote from: "Swing Swang"A photo of a recipe made using home-grown ingredients, and post the recipe as part of the competition entry too.
can i take a photo when out for a meal?..... i dont do cooking :? and yes it is because i cant cook
Nice idea :DDoes that mean you can't enter due to a conflict of interest what with you being involved with Worzel 'an all? :tongue2:
I don't have a lotty. Could I just stand in my garden with a broomhandle through my sleeves and post a photo ?
Or would that be TOO frightening ?
Rob
How about one on the theme All in a Row? Could be anything then from gardens to lotties to plots couldn't it?
Long term contest for next year possibly to be kicked off: 1ft square flower garden.
Coming up i'm thinking of 'after the harvest'. Structures/pictures made from the leftovers of plants after they have been harvested. A bit like the egg shell stuff you would make for Easter.
Another one would be 3 photos over the course of a day of your veg/flower plot. At Dawn, Midnight, Dusk & Midnight. 3 of the four should be enough but all four may be nice.
Finally! (got in the flow now) Allotment oddities. All the unusual stuff that doesn't fit into any category. Special statues and the little extras that bring you a little pride to your garden or plot.
Now we're in November, how about "signs of Spring" ?
ROb
I up for a comp to, as i get chance to use my new camera

All of the above (apart from prickles) but close-up.... :tongue2:I up for a comp to, as i get chance to use my new camera
The best wildlife photo ??? You're at a bit of an advantage though ;)Now we're in November, how about "signs of Spring" ?As above - Pet hoggies excluded :tongue2: ;)
ROb
I could get a close-up of little hog with food slop all down her chin if you like ::)
Or wait until next year for the ducklings :D
Rob
Yorkie..... Thats because it is silly

Nice one Learner
Nice piccies too Vember, wish my camera did things like that
(http://public.blu.livefilestore.com/y1peJB2DYoaDLyOeoOpl4V3_XNjLzL24AXv5Z_8Q6mIU-xoPLBAf12yQeJvST_AR9Bc7ObdEa2f4tjzwf7zaeoG8w/DSC_1060.jpg)
Sticking with the bubble type thing or droplets
Learner im sure you could get some small leaves and do the same kinda thing, they would have to be small leaves tho. Poolfield this was taken just for the reflection in the droplets i was just trying some angles and natural lighting stuff.
I used a small sheet of perspex about 6x4 with 2 piles of pencils with rubber bands around them under the sheet either side and some crossed paper to give the pattern added some water droplets and creates the effect. All taken on the window sill on a sunny afternoon.
I do do some strange things at work.
As some of you really like water droplet photos, I hope you don't mind me putting this link on as further inspiration (not my piccies but as I said, may be inspiring :) )

What about a picture with a horticultural / wildlife theme for a greetings card of your choice . Could be a shot of frosty/snowy weather for a Christmas card or say spring flowers for an Easter card, that sort of thing. Or has that been done before
What about best thing made from a plastic bottle :)
]
I''ve seen a fantastic greenhouse made from recycled litre plastic bottles on a wooden frame. It was very impressive but I'm not sure I could drink that much lemonade! and hold a camera steady afterwards...

I like that idea. :)
I make a mean bird feeder with a lemonade bottle and 2 yoghurt pots :)
OH calls it burp juice  Hes got grand kids saying it now
I was sent this card from China, perhaps its a greenhouse being delivered

How did I just know your eye would zoom straight to those wheels Learner
Maybe the next one a spring garden? Early shoots of spring or something like that?
We could even have a calender competition and at the end of the year sell them and the profits go to a nominated charity??? :D
Funniest looking veg a la Thats Life! Shot must be taken "on the plot" to ensure authenticity!
I think a lot of us have weird shaped veggie pics!

After I Photoshopped it!
how about guinea pigs, rabbits and hamsters :)
having a veg or flower theme would mean that us chicken folks could miss out on that competition, no chance of either with my girls  but I do like the one word theme though :D

All we need is the right word ;).... and then the Mods to agree :)
How about: Happiness is....... ?
Oh I used to love those cigar adverts
That's a good idea Learner. For the poultry folk, we're planning on some competitions in the newsletter.
Looking ahead a little bit, would a competition of the best carved pumpkin be weclomed d'you think?
how about "wildlife friendly allotmenting" photo contest ? :)
How about a competition for the best picture of a seal in a rubber dinghy?
That gets my seal of approval  :ohmy:How about a competition for the best picture of a seal in a rubber dinghy?

and why not :nowink:
how about for an Autumn competition the theme is the harvest ?
Would my homegrown guinea fowl or chicken with a side order of nettles and apples count (don't grow much else) :D
Would my homegrown guinea fowl or chicken with a side order of nettles and apples count (don't grow much else) :D
Well it wouldn't be down to me to decide but i cant see why not. Think what a lovely photo a roast chicken would make :) or just a dish of roast pots or parsnips or chips. It wouldn't need to be elaborate stuff just made using mostly your own stuff.
Its all starting to sound a bit complicated isn't it ::) it seemed a good idea an hour ago
Think I'll go to bed

I, as a Master Composter, .
how about for another competition "Autunmnal scenes" ? :)
what about the most beautiful autumnal tree? Its a great autumn this year!I second it. autumn pictures
CC x
autumn - OK you win :)
Something cheerful, like 'what are you looking forward to'. I'm personally fed up with this horrible weather, the flu bug etc. I'm personallly looking forward for the first time in about four years to being able to go away for a whole two weeks on holiday without having to think about anyone else and have they had theirs.
if it goes on an allotment for use and lots of them do have chickens , so yes why not
The winning idea / entry could receive the materials to make his / her own invention / idea..... or a copy of Johns newest book "Waste not Want Not - 101 ideas to recycle" ;)
I'm not sure how I'd use a lead balloon on the plot ... perhaps an anti-pigeon device?
Remeber the "Shed" comp? How about a "Homemade Coop/Run" one?
How about a scarecrow competition?? That could be fun and anyone could make one large or small
Have you been asleep min?
http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=38300.0
Is this a photo from new years eve?If so i can't join in
We'll have to wait patiently and see if one of our Mods is willing to take on the organisation if the idea is accepted
hey don't mess with me. I've killed more seedlings over the years than you've had hot dinners, lunches, breakfasts and toasties! ::)
OK - most bizarrely shaped chicken!
I know what you mean , Joy, for compy ideas, both the growers and chicken keepers, (unless they already do both), really have to think outside their box.
That sounds like a good one MJS! :D

I think lots of people would enjoy that one. Excellent. :)
How about the best re-use of a common article, for example a wheelbarrow planter, guttering strawberry planter, Things made of palletts, tools from reclaimed bits etc etc. I'm sure chicken owners recycle things too. :D
Also, what about a 'photo of the most colourful tree/trees' competition - the autumn colours are wonderful this year :D
It is lovely to see, but this (http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=67678.msg774268#msg774268) is one of the most recent competitions that have been held... :)
recent... it was 2 years ago!
thanks for the link though, arugula - it was before I joined so hadn't see it - lovely pictures! :)
A bit short notice, I suppose, but how about 'best hallowe'en carved pumpkin' pictures? :)
You're all being 'Taleist'!
What about people who don't have tails!
I ask you, what is the world coming to these days...;0)

They are called talelesses I guess ???
like it - everybody can take photos :D
Sorry if I'm being impatient
Did the new 'Winter's Tale' photo competition start yet? Don't think I've missed it
I think the photo should be taken between 3rd of December 2012 and the 3rd January 2013.
If the competition is for a photograph taken between 3rd Dec and 3rd January, that doesn't leave much time for me to set up the Boer War Growster Journalist's Semi-Automatic Leather-Bellows See-All Camera, with whalebone adjustments, and ebony gussetts, now does it!
Blimey, sometimes it takes about three days just to get the equipment organised, and I have to wait for a sunny, still day with no cloud, and also, the good people at Boots will be on holiday, so the photo-plates won't be developed much before February!
Then I'll have to drive the old Morris 8 up to Nottingham to collect them, as the post is no good with such delicate objects, and petrol is nearly 4/6 a gallon, so all I'm asking is, can I send in my contributions in March, and also, if I send a stamped addressed envelope, can I have them back please?
I really don't know what the world's coming to these days, some competitions back in my day took nearly three years! You want it all done and dusted in a month!
:0)
What about - it's too hot!
How about a tasty recipe baking competition based on a homegrown ingredient, photograhic evidence posted on site of member baking the said recipe and samples posted to John to judge the taste.
DELICIOUS
What about the 'Biggest Slug found on Your Plot' competition. Everyone would have to keep a tape measure handy for the photos !
Like the wildlife piccy idea interesting to know what everyone else gets in their gardens and biggest slug idea that could be funny for the squeamish of us like me , what about before and after pics transformation of garden or plot, rude or funny vedge ?like the idea of all of those rosie anything to put a smile on peoples faces to get through a day !
What about the weirdest recycled object on the lotty.Or just pictures of things upcycled to another use? You could guess their uses and the most obscure one wins.
What about the weirdest recycled object on the lotty.Or just pictures of things upcycled to another use? You could guess their uses and the most obscure one wins.
Is it too late for an idea?
What if we asked all the big posters (maybe hero or above, or the mods) for a picture of their plot and then we have to match the plot to the list of posters?
Whoever mesages their guesses with the most correct wins?
Weird shaped vegetables, might be fun.
We could always run two competitions at the same time ;)
I like the idea of a photo that means a word to you like COMFORT, DIVERSITY, FRUGALITY, INGENUITY, HAPPINESS, PRIDE, FORTITUDE, ETC.
It gives everyone on the forum a chance to enter with their own interpretation, and the judges an interesting time judging.
hi how about word search competitions vegetables perennials annuals machinery etc jezza
I think we should have another pet competition so I can win it!
Okay!I think we should have another pet competition so I can win it!
There's an idea.
I can contribute: budgies and foreign finches, tropical fresh-water and marine fish, cats and kittens, conure parrots and pretty tame koi carp....as well as foxes and hedgehogs if they are allowed.
Sometimes everyday life itself is competitive enough perhaps?
