Title: Update on Tumours?---wasps
Post by: Prod on July 17, 2015, 19:18
Cleaning out the coop today and disturbed a wasp nest the size of a small melon. Jet sprayed inside and what remains is the attached pic so pretty sure it was a wasp sting on the little pekin hen.......

It's a pity it had to be sprayed - your girls would have loved those grubs!

However, a hen can be killed by too many stings so you did the right thing. We found an old abandoed nest when we renewed the roof on our extension and you can't really describe how beautiful it is - paper thin walls of so many different colours

Yes it was a shame to destroy the nest as quite rightly, as you say, it was beautifully constructed but the bantams are only 4 to 7 weeks old and as one had already been stung I didn't want to take the chance. Plus I am one of these people who have allergic reactions to stings and bites, you should see the state of my forearm after a horse bite, so it had to be done I'm afraid.  There were plenty of 'drowned' wasps which the chicks did enjoy!!!

Glad that it is gone.
