Large Eggs Worry !
« on: May 01, 2010, 16:17 »
Please could you give me some advice. One of my girls are laying very large eggs every few days or so. I was hoping his would settle down.As she is young at 27wks. But its not. I believe this could be a worry.
Whats going on? Is there anything I could do ? Whats the outlook ?

there is nothing you can do, hopefully she will settle down, but if not just keep an eye on her  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

I have had 2 large eggs from one of my hens.  I had one large, 1 normal, 1 large and now two days normal.  I thought as the large one was a double yolker I wouldn't get one the next day but I did. My hen is 40 weeks old and has only been laying for about 7/8 weeks.
2 Springer Spaniels, 1 Speckled Sussex,  1 Cuckoo Maran, 1 Light Sussex, 1 Welsummer, 2 Barnvelders and 2 silver Pencil Wyandotes.

Hi - My bluebelle lays nearly every day - and about every 3rd or 4th day, she lays a whoppa double yolked egg - she is very young - and only been laying since Easter, but she's fine and really healthy, so I would say that you havn't really much to worry about as long as she's fit and well.. just enjoy the eggs and remember to say thank you!!

My black rock has started to lay monstrous eggs that make me yelp never mind her, they are mishappen too, which I am told is because they are so big.  Someone told me there is a product on the market that can be given them, makes large eggs come out easier I gather, but they could not remember the name, wonder if anyone else has heard of this. alison

Bellagirl are the large eggs double yolkers or just large?  My hen has now laid 3 very large eggs with normal eggs inbetween but the large ones are double yolkers.  I am hoping this is just a blip and she will return to normal laying as I know it isn't good for them.  She seems very well in every other way :)

One of my youngest Rhode Island Red girls has started to lay now and she lays a double yolker every 2 days.  I keep telling her not to as I can't incubate twins!  But she still does it!!   :(

Lovely eggs though, I had one on toast yesterday!!!   :D :D
