Today I managed to snag a large trailer load of free shredded leaves for the veg garden. It adds loads of tilth. But so far I couldn't find any free manure. Until my new next door neighbour began gathering his lawn leaves today with a farm tractor! (we live in town). I immediately ran up to him (we hadn't met before) and said "Do you have access to manure?" He staggered a little at this ice breaking conversation and said he did, older chicken poo. How much would I like? 2 full wagon loads I quickly replied. Within the week he'll be delivering my 2 loads to my garden. Isn't it amazing how a pile of c**p can excite a gardener?
So, eat your heart out Munty

I'm a happy bunny too. Farm next door is now fully organic with a very large beef herd. 15 tonnes rotted manure delivered so far in exchange for a couple litres of homemade yogurt smoothy. Result!
Ironic really because my organic gardening raised a few eyebrows with the same folks 21 years ago.
So, Trillium, you must be really chuffed since its harder to get muck in town. Will you be composting it before use?

Always said Munty talked a load of ..............

:tongue2: :tongue2:

Put two red footballs on top of each pile and photograph again.

Your piles  might be bigger than mine, Munty, but mine are chicken and scatter further. It isn't size that matters, sailor
I won't be composting the piles (with or without red footballs). They'll go directly onto the veg and soft fruit beds soon as they arrive. The fruit trees will also get light mulchings of 'the good stuff'. By spring the soil will be raring to grow.
WG, I've had friends and neighbours just like yours - formerly dedicated chemical gardeners who are now organic. Even converted my own mother! And since I moved here 4 years ago, I've noticed more manure piles being dumped into town veg gardens. They've finally realized it's chic to stink.

A thought just occurred to me.....
What type of person takes a picture of a pile of Pooh and then presents it for others to admire as if it was a New Born Baby.
I think I may need help :D

forgot to mention trill? mine is chicken pooop n turkey poop .... :tongue2:

If anyone had told me in my rampant years I'd be impressed by a blokes pile of poo I'd have laughed in their face.
Now, I'll marry yer and divorce yer both for half

Back in the 70's good sh*t was something else man :!:

True, Fat Hen, but you wouldn't want to smoke this stuff. Not only would it stick to the lips, but you'd need a plunger to get it out of the lungs  Not quite my idea of a fun party

Made a list of local riding stables yesterday, aiming to phone round today. Nextdoorbutone has just collared me in the street saying I can go and pick some up from where she rides, this weekend.
Nice timing as I dug the first two raised beds yesterday, prior to getting the woodwork together.
So we're actually making progress!!!

I'm now in charge of ordering the site manure. It's more complicated than you might expect.
