Still have memories of that vicious frost in mod-May last year!

It wasn't our fault!  :tongue2:
I really must learn to use a keyboard JayG - that should have read 'mid-May'

Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Finally!  I had to clear the bed which had leeks, parsnips and lots of weeds (need to make mashed parsnips and leek soup for the freezer).

Put them all in - I've gone for a few of lots of varieties this year.

Also got some in potato planter bags on the patio.

Lotty holder since Aug 09... I've FINALLY finished clearing it! On with the p.lanting  ....

Planted first 1/3rd of First Early (Arran Pilot), and 1/3rd of Pink Fir Apple. Don't want to rush for the rest in case we have late frosts and I'm having to rig up double fleece and straw / grass clippings to try to keep the frost off.

I have bags for ultra-earlies, and these two batches will give me some middle-earlies, and the rest of the First and all the Second earlies can then come successionally.

That's my theory anyway!

Why are maincrop potatoes planted later than first earlies?
