hello all , first time post

Hi everyone. I just wanted to say a quick hi from Norfolk. My wife and i have just taken on a very messy plot that we are hoping to transform . Its been ploughed after the docks and brambles were removed but we were wondering whats the best course of action now before winter sets in. the soil is loamy and alkaline . It was couch grass and all manner of weeds and ive been told to watch out for wire worm .Any advice would be greatly received as we are complete newbies to veg gardening.  Best regards to all .

If any bits are already flattish, I'd sow some Phacelia green manure seeds. It'll grow until there's a hard frost which will kill the tops and leave the roots to rot in situ, improving the soil for spring cultivation and sowing.
Cultivation of the land plus traps to reduce wireworm numbers during the growing months as suggested here, do help.

Numbers will gradually reduce over a few years of cultivation because they prefer grassland to cultivated soil.
Good luck with the new plot  :)
