This is a how old is your dog

Calculator as it does vary from the 7 year rule.

This was on the BBC news magazine page about a month ago. It doesn't make a lot of sense, or if it does (to anyone) it doesn't show anything remotely clear cut...

Smallmedium dog is the inner ring.
Large dog is the middle ring
Xtra Large dog is the outer ring


A rough size guide is the three pictures of the dogs.


The green numbers is the actual age in years.

Find your dogs age in the green ring, then read his human age on the correct orange ring.
(Its based on the old 1 year = 7 year thing)

It's perfectly clear to me 

People like (for a bit of fun) to estimate their dogs' equivalent ages / life expectancies by the 1 person year = 7 dog years tradition.

This is broadly inaccurate because larger dogs typically have shorter lifespans than little dogs, so this image provides a less inaccurate way to estimate the dog's age etc.  Take the dog's age in calendar years - the green numbers, and read out towards the outside for the dog's comparable age in human years to the right number according to the size of the dog.

So, a large dog aged 7 years equates to 54 years in a human's lifespan.

It's all not to be taken too seriously and is a bit of fun.  I found it interesting, Bob

My Small dog passed away at 19 what would that make him?

The bigger the dog the shorter the life. A dog that reaches 20 is roughly 140 in human years. (20*7)  Not sure on the scale above.  You must have looked after him ever so well??
