watery poo
« on: November 17, 2008, 14:23 »
Im getting a little concerned about Dinner again. She's always had very wet poo but it seems to be getting worse.  It was almost like projectile pooing this morning.

Her movements seem to be 60-70 clear liquid that goes white after a minute or 2. No blood and what solid matter is there seems to be "normal" it doesn't seem to be diarrhea.

She doesn't seem to drink excessively, eats normally, lays daily and doesn't feel any hotter to me than the other birds.  They were all wormed in September  the other 2 seem fine.

I've kept them in the run for the last few days in case it was something they were nibbling but that doesn't seem to have made any difference.

Any thoughts? or is it just something not to worry about.

It looks like the watery poo but with more solid material.

Slightly darker than cardboard about the same colour as the pellets to be honest. I dont think she's under fed, she certainly eats her fair share of the corn I give them of an afternoon.

I'll see if I can get a picture tomorrow - not the easiest thing to do in the run as they're on woodchipping and the patio is currently sodden from the constant rain.

She could be anything from 24 Weeks to 32 Weeks old.

 Is she laying?
Daily : no soft shell or odd eggs either - although the time of day now seems variable.

 Is her comb pail?
Not really - her comb and wattle ranges from bright red to just red, but its always redder than the 2 none laying hens.

She seems fine in all other respects - top of the pecking order, always chatty and looking for something to peck at.

Had a delve in one of my books and stress can apparently cause watery poops :?
Not had a fright recently has she?

Just to clarify the watery bit is clear not white :?
She hasn't got the snuffles/sneezes or anything like that chest not rattling :?

No stress or frights as far as I know. No snuffles, sneezes, coughs or wheezes. No funny smell and her eyes are clear and bright.

Im guessing its watery urates - initially its clear then turns white.

I hope its not a kidney problem ?!

I think heat stress can cause watery poo to shed excess heat.

you're not dressing in a wooly jumper and scarf I presume ?

have you checked her crop first thing in the morning ?
