I have purchased a packet of Okra seeds as it is a green veg that all the family will eat if purchased from the supermarket.  It says on the packet that it can be difficult to grow.  Has anyone grown it and with what degree of success?Has anyone got any golden secrets? - could this be a prize winning special for the local show?

That was me!  It's currently on p.5 of this section and it's just titled "Okra".  General opinion seemed to be that it would be difficult, but I've found that it germinated well (it was the first thing to germinate indoors.)  The plants seem to be doing well, but I'm going to experiment a bit with some in the greenhouse, some in pots and some on the allotment.  We'll have to compare notes later in the year.
I found a lot of advice suggesting soaking the seeds before planting, or putting it in boiling water, or freezing it after sowing - all of these because it's a large, hard seed.  I didn't do any of these, because I found all this after sowing, but they've still come up well.
