Growing Okra
« on: June 25, 2013, 22:41 »
Has anyone tried growing Okra. This year to date, it is my only real failure. It is still in the greenhouse although I had intended to move outside. I did use heat earlier in the year. I have three plants and the leaves keep loosing their colour and starting to shrivel. I deliberately bought a variety which was supposed to be fine for cooler climates.

Any tips?

Tried it a few years ago here, with similar sounding results to yours....

Having some success. I put a spadeful of fresh horse manure in the hole where they were going to be planted. They love bottom heat, so the manure may help.

Thanks, sounds like I'm not doing much wrong except living in the wrong country ;)

Same up here in the tropics!

had three very healthy lush green plants in the greenhouse, they are in greenhouse beds and they have over this last week or so starting turn colour, I was thinking it was something in me beds but sounds like it is a common issue.
