Title: Growing Okra is it possible outdoors?
Post by: nilsatis1964 on March 30, 2010, 22:38
I was just wondering if anyone had tried to grow Okra outdoors in the UK?  I suppose I should be more specific as far north as Leeds anyway.

Not sure what Leeds weather is like, but okra is a tropical plant that needs heat and sun. If you can provide both of these for a full 2 months, or 3 , then you could get a harvest. The heat would need to be real heat, not simply 'not quite so cold', so a large cold frame or greenhouse should do the trick provided they get lots of sun as well. lacking sunshine, if they're in a greenhouse, you could try growlights for the season.
