Our little Niblet was killed on the road today. She's always been a roamer and every summer wasn't seen for days as she lived off the land like her wild ancestors. But she's always been very loving and affectionate to everyone. Last night she slept on my bed.
A neighbour came up and said he thought one of our cats had been hit by a car. I kept hoping it wasn't her as I went to the road but it was.
She was about 16, Cara rescued her along with Pixie from a feral colony. She lived with Cara initially but one of Cara's cats kept going for her so she moved here in 2011. Her vision was impaired in one eye which she later lost in an accident but it didn't cramp her hunting skills.
Feels very empty tonight.

How very sad, but 16 years is quite good for a cat, especially with poor vision.
You gave her the best life while she was with you...

Oh I am so so sorry.  Having had 5 cats over the years I know only too well the sense of sadness at losing them.

Her younger sister, Pixie is ill and I doubt she'll see Christmas but Nibbles was active and in good health. The problem here is the road has a speed limit of 60 and the boy racers try to get up to it. It really should be 30 or 40. Then again, you could make it 30 mph and it would just be ignored.

We both feel punched in the gut. I know she had a good life but it doesn't take the sadness away. Cara said they were capturing feral kittens to home and Nibblet was deemed too old to tame up. But she kept getting into the basket as the other cats ran off.

It is very sad when she was fit and active and was taken before her time.  It is bad enough when a pet leaves you due to natural causes or illness.  The sudden shock of this is going to take some time to get over.

It sounds like Niblett did have a great life with you though. It is a one in a million chance as well.  She escaped being feral by her own actions and not acting feral at all.  After that ending up with people who would make sure she was loved and cared for like a princess.  She must have sensed Cara would see her right.
