Classic Lawns
« on: May 23, 2010, 20:27 »
Hello every body.

About two years ago I bought an Ardisam Badger EarthQuake Cultivator from Classic Lawns.
I have found it brilliant, 6.5H.P. Briggs & Stratton Quantum engine. It realy does the job very well.
Last Sunday the drive belt snapped so I ordered one from Classic Lawns on the internet. It turns out the the addess has chaned from Stroud in Glos. to Willenhall West Mids.
The belt has not turned up. I have emailed them and rung them, left messages but not a dicky bird.

Two questions. 1/ Does any body know some thing about Classic Lawns that I don't  know about?

2/ Does any one know of another drive belt that will fit this cultivator that costs heck of a lot less that £24.50 delivered? Belt number AR3370

Please, all information gladly received.
Thank you

I find google street view helpful for things like this.

The trading estate shows a their address has a sign for essential equipment Ltd.

http://www.essentialequipment.co.uk/default.asp

Looks like your standard trading estate importer/distributor - Im a little too far to go over and have a look for you though.

Their phone number is different but their fax is the same - Id give them a ring on the other number if they don't answer the classic lawn one.

Hello Lardman and every one else of cause.

Thank you for this info, I have checked it out and you are right. It is certainly not the Classic Lawns I had excellent service from just two years ago.

I eventually had an empty email from them telling me that this belt was out of stock and are awaiting a delivery from the states which should be by the end of this week.

I replied telling them a couple of my observations such as communication and wanting my money back The answer I got back was a big fat zero.

I think that this company has real problems and my veiw is it should be avoided like the plague.

Thank you and buyer beware.

Hi All.

Just a quick up date on this situation. I did get my money back in the end and just two days later the belt arrived followed by an email asking for my card details again or to return it. I opted to return it once a suitable self addressed package with the correct postage was received. Still waiting.

I did find a belt locally, it turns out that this particular belt is the same as most rotavators, grass cutters and cement mixers and cost less than half the price of the "genuine" part. I found the new belt is made from a harder material than the original but after several hours use it is now as pliable as the original.

My advise, for what it is worth, is to take your old belt to a motor factors and ask for "one like this".

Thank you for your input and I hope that no body gets stung!

Let me declare my interest up front: I actually work for Classic Lawns. I’d like to take the opportunity to respond to comments posted about us in this forum.
Firstly, our address has indeed changed from Stroud to the West Midlands, due to the fact that we bought the company from the previous owner around three months ago. Now, Classic Lawns is part of the Essential Equipment group, a trading and automotive component specialist with over 50 years in manufacturing and distributing, as well as significant experience in the gardening business as an industry-wide supplier of plant protection and anti-pest products.
I remember very clearly the problems we had with canon can’s order, and I think he will find that he has already received the self addressed package with correct postage he talks about in his last posting. Although we have apologised to him on more than one occasion, I’d like to do so again. However, I think we need some clarification here: the fault for the delay lies not with us, but with Ardisam itself, who had simply failed to send the correct spares from the US to the UK. We had sent canon can’s order to the supplier, and as we didn’t hear anything to the contrary, assumed it had been despatched as normal. Once we received canon can’s emails telling us that this was not the case, we tried to do everything we could to help. Unfortunately, the final hiccup was that, on the very same day he chose to cancel his order, the parts department, knowing the urgency, had already sent the belt.
I’d like to reassure everyone reading this that all the teething problems that inevitably occur when a business changes hands have now been rectified. All email addresses, fax and phone numbers are current; all enquiries will be responded to as soon as possible. It is very much business as usual. Moreover, canon can’s comments above on the state of our business are pure conjecture, and are very far from the truth, as can be seen in the extremely positive reviews we have received recently on forums such as yelp and qype uk. I hope this reassures Classic Lawns customers past, present and future that good service and continuous communication are absolutely central to how we run our business.

We hope you will continue to provide a great service to your customers after these first hiccups.

Thanks for your comments Aunt Sally. It goes without saying that no one likes to disappoint a customer, whatever the circumstances. My comments were simply an attempt to present our side of the story and reassure everyone that, after the recent change in management, Classic Lawns is back - bigger and (hopefully) even better than before. Cheers, Simon
