Which is the best or should we look to give both at different times of the day?  Anyone got any good sources for where purchase theirs from?

I feed mine layers pellets, then in the afternoon I give a couple of scoops of mixed corn - this helps keep them warm overnight

Hi davepitch.

I do the same as vember. There was talk a few days ago about feeding wheat during Winter but you'd need to watch the supplements and calcium because they are likely to lay some eggs at least.

Do you make your own feed mix ?

cereal and grain feed are one and the same .... cereals are wheat etc ... feeding layers is fine as we do along with daily treats of wheat barley comfrey and other bits of sed , budgies are mucky beggers but the chucks love the left overs when we clean them out.. try getting some cover crop seed mix and just sowing that under protection someplace and then let it seed the birds will love it
