Title: Half price mini plastic greenhouses
Post by: Lee G on February 28, 2009, 11:26
Just noticed an ad that Argos are doing their little plastic greenhouse things at 1/2 price,  now less that £20, which seems like a bargain to me (especially as I was going to get one anyway for the garden at home)

http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500001501&langId=-1&productId=1500337425 (http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500001501&langId=-1&productId=1500337425)

Thanks for the tip - a real bargain!

Now the problem is do I really need one?
Could be good on the plot at the end of the shed - extra space for seedlings in the sun!

Almost unresistable....... :)

Ermmm im a corner peice missing i cant make up my mind weather its missing from the factory or weather little Callum the builder (age 3 has taken it somewhere hahahah)  So im going to have to get in touch with argos and see weather i can go and get just the one peice or take it all apart again to take it back.   They are only really worth £19.49 it would imagine it will do the trick until the wind picks up i guess. we did have fun bonding time together tho as daughter is a Nan's

I put up my boyfreinds for him on Saturday and had tube B missing and an extra corner piece! Maybe it was yours Rangerkris? They are ok for the money, I have a smaller one which is useful for hardening off seedlings. They do have a bit of a skirt to put some bricks on which I would recommend. Nic.

Even better aswell, is that it will be completely free too!!

We've had some vouchers knocking around for a while, so i'm gonna use them to buy it...Result!! :D

Yes I've just noticed that gaz. Well they're in for a row if they try that on with me later. I reserved mine at the sale price that's what I'll be paying!!!

Edit; you were lucky to get it for the sale price gaz. I've just read the email they sent me and it says you pay the price that is valid at the time of collection.

Picked mine up yesterday and they tried to charge me the 'full' price of £29.965 (interesting, as they were listed as full price: £38  ::) ). A hard glare and the fact ensured that I had the last one in the Manchester area for under £20.  :D

I'm looking forward to setting it up, as my Freecycle greenhouse has gone a bit t*ts up...

I decided not to go for the bargain after all..... instead I am aiming to knock up a frame using the remains of my old conservatory roof cut into shorter panels. It was triple-wall polycarbonate and I'm hoping I can fix 4 sides and a roof together using some wire and string. ::)

Elegant?  ??? Maybe not but it'll do to protect something between now and the warmth.

not sure just wire and string will keep the heat in  :tongue2:

Mines on it head twice in less than 3 days hahahaha will have to look at weights for this before seeds go in.

Cripes on a bike...  >:(

Put mine up today, choosing the windiest day of course! Everything was fine until I tried to put the cover over the frame, at which point the whole thing turned into a large and unweildy kite!

I have used all the pegs, several bricks and tied the frame to the adjacent fence.

Here's hoping it is still standing when I go back to the plot...

Also worth noting that the shelves don't quite fit to the frame, so they will need securing with twist ties or something. Still, not too bad for £20.

My solution for wind:

I have an old light-weight 3 tier plastic greenhouse. I use it to hold seed-trays of pricked out seedlings when the greenhouse is full later in the spring.

Wind was a problem!!

I found 4 cup-hooks into a wall in pairs (2 either side) around the back edge of the greenhouse helped me secure two bungee chords (elasticised springy things used to hold luggage on car roof-racks or, in my case, on the bike trailer).

The springiness allows a bit of movement but the greenhouse isn’t damaged and stays in place where I put it. They are easy to remove so you can get to the inside when you want.

If you haven’t a convenient, sunny wall to use as an anchor I imagine it would work as well on a fence or a couple of fence posts erected for the purpose.

Just an idea that might help. ;)
