Prolapsed egg
« on: April 23, 2013, 17:03 »
I have a hen that has a prolapsed egg.I read to push it back in, but when I pushed it back in it popped back out.  Any ideas of what this could be/what I should do?  :(

Do you mean a broken egg or the hen has a prolapse?

If she has a prolapse there is some information on treatment on this LINK

She layed a huge egg yesterday and it had blood on it. So yes I assume she has a prolaspe. She's a cochin bantam and the egg was quite big big! :/

A large egg does not necessarily mean a prolapse. The blood is proabaly because she split a little whilst laying it. You will see a prolapse at her vent it will be unmistakeable. If there is nothing to see and your hen seems fine in her self I wouldn't worry. They do lay an extra large egg sometimes when they are young and getting themselves sorted out. :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

She definitely has a prolapse. There is a little red looking ball coming out of her vent. :( I've seen some photos and that's definitely wants going on.

Did you read the link about treatment?  It is best not to leave her with the other hens as they will peck at it and could kill her.  If you are unable to treat her yourself you need to consult a vet.   :)
