French beans have stopped growing
« on: May 24, 2011, 19:25 »
Evening all

I harden off my French beans and put them in the veg patch and since then they haven't grown at all.  They look fine but their just not growing, is this normal?  I don't know if this is significant but they are in a newly dug veg patch and it has some bad patches of clay in it.

This is the sort of question where it is vital to know your general location - could you please edit your forum profile to show this (click your username)?  Ta

Also, when did you put your french beans outdoors - how long ago?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

About to ask the same!

The act of transplanting can check things and it's not been too warm at night. I'm sure they'll get going in a bit. How long have they been out?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Hi

I'm in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.  I planted them out in the last week of April.

I think that a little early. The cold has no doubt set them back.

My plants don't go out until June.

I didn't start my tender plants off indoors until about 3 weeks ago, and will start hardening them off shortly (when the winds stop), ready for planting out about a week or more later (at least into June).

Another four for me. I had a feeling that you had been, it takes one to know one.

Beth if it any consolation I also put mine out early - just down the road in sunny Sheffield we had a really hot April and I had planted them too early so they were shooting up in the greenhouse. I put them out the first week of May and they have sulked ever since! Hopefully things will improve over the next couple of weeks.
