Strawberry leaves wilting
« on: March 15, 2011, 18:31 »
Planted my strawberries in hanging baskets about 1 week ago.

All doing well apart from 2 plants whose leaves are wilting - could this be verticillium?  I'm not sure if it is as my other plants in the same basket haven't been affected.

Any advice?

Could be a number of things: -

First and most obvious thing is to check they have not dried out as they like plenty of water.

Could be Verticillium wilt which is a virus and difficult to manage.

Could be vine weevil eating the roots. If it is there will be small white grubs in the soil / roots. I get these pests occasionally  but generally in overwintered pot plants.

Could be something else that others may be able to advise on.

Thanks - yes they could be getting dried more in the wind.

I have given them a good water tonight so I'll see how they are by the weekend
