Have I transplanted my cabbages right?   The stalks are bent and on the ground.  I'm a complete allotment newbie, so please forgive any profound ignorance on my part.

They will pick themselfs up again dont worry. Just put a little lime around the bottom of them and they will love it. Cover them to as the birds love them also.

When I plant brassicas, I plant up to the first leaves ,ensures a good root system, brassicas like to be firmed in to the soil .Then I puddle them in, (a good drink of water )for the first few days after planting they can look a bit sorry for themselves, as the roots develop they pick up.

So if I assume Ihaven't transplanted them deep enough, should I now earth them up, the leaves are now 6-8 inches and the stalks around 4 inches.  I don't want to lose my babies at such a tender young age!!!

I would replant up to the bottom leaves and firm in after planting with my feet !! If your ground is wet as is most peoples at the moment, should nt be a problem.

If you feel dubious about doing that, then pile up the soil around the stalk and firm it down till it reaches bottom leaf level.

Brassicas dont like to wave around in the wind on long stalks.
