too many eggs
« on: February 07, 2013, 15:08 »
Very strange yesterday went to give the chooks an afternoon treat and collect the eggs and there was an egg just lay in the middle of the run. Thought it was strange but assumed one was caught short while nesting boxes were ocupied. When I opened the nest box there was 4 eggs in there so altogether I got 5 egg from only 4 chooks  the one I collected from the run was huge aswell so one poor lady had a busy day. Not bad going considering the weather  :) cant tell who had done to none seem worn out lol

Ooh that sounds nice.
Does sound like one of your girls has had a busy day though. Very occasionally one of my ducks has a 2 egg day, usually a second in the evening but then usually have a break the following day.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

I have never had a pickled egg, maybe there is a method how to do that, but too be honest it doesnt sound right :(

I have never had too many eggs, too many free loaders after them, but now we start charging  :)
It's all about the journey, not the destination

White bread is better pond duck food than it is laying hen food, too much and the hens health will suffer and you will get poor quality eggs .

I thought bread is not good for hens.  I would have thought it could cause a blockage if it swells up once eaten.

I have only ever used seeded bread to give them some cod liver oil as I can put the oil on tiny pieces and feed a piece to individual hens.

You should only give small amounts soaked in water so it doesn't swell up in their tummy
