My sympathies Tomato-joy my plot seems to have more stones than soil. I have scrounged a few big mail bags from the postie at work they are those woven ones and I'm going to try my carrots in these  -almost like getting them ready bagged.

Good idea - I've got some in my garage as the postie used to collect from the house.

Are they the grey mail sacks?

Not promoting this method or anything, but it's an interesting site about someone who grows stuff in 4 pt milk containers. http://www.recycling.moonfruit.com/  Wouldn't fancy it for our allotment or back garden !

No reason why pop bottles couldn't be used provided you figured out a frame to hold them up in the wind.  One plant per bottle.  Remember to fork up the soil underneath so that they can get down an extra few inches.
