Broad Bean flowers dropping off
« on: May 25, 2009, 14:46 »
My Broad bean plants "The Sutton" are very healthy and flowering in abundance. However, I understand that they flower and die and leave the stalk where the pod develops. The trouble is, Mine are flowering and dying but the whole stalk drops off with the petals so no bean can form. There is no pest eating them or anything and I water regular.

Can anyone tell me what may be wrong and if I can do anything?

Thanks.

Mine are great and I never water them. Not sure whether that might be the problem.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Mine seem to do that on the lower flowers then they set higher up. Maybe too dry or lack of pollination. See how they go later on with the higher ones.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Hmm are you actually certain, the whole stem is dropping off?  The beans can develop a while after the flower has apparantly died.   However, as has been said this "die off" can sometimes happen to the lower set of flowers,  best of luck with the rest.
