I have just counted the flowers on my one surviving courgette. They're not all "in flower" but I can tell from the length of stem, their sex.

Male          17
Female       0

How many male flowers should I keep for fertilisation when the girls wake up  ......I'll be "making like the bees" for that little process

Just let them get on with it - there are always lots of males before the females come along
