Apparently voting has opened today on Britain's favourite bird. The best suggestion so far (IMHO!) is chicken! Recognition at last for what we all know in the henhouse although that was for the ssp. Madras (although I think ssp Balti Masala a close favourite...)

Looking around sometimes I can't help thinking the appropriate bird to represent the modern UK should be the cuckoo....
-
Definitely NOT the pigeon! We've got thousands up here at the moment! :( :(
Chicken is a good one, but if they want wild birds, then I love Owls! :)
-
It has to be the wren for me. I love to see then in the garden.

Thank you Aunt Sally. Just voted for the Robin. I love to watch them in my garden. Closely followed by the blue tits.
-
For me it has to be the blackbird, if only for it's song.

Robin for me

I voted for the robin too. Touch and go between the blackbird, owl and wren.
-
Oh where's the songthrush? Spellbinding concert last year in spring.... ::)

kingfisher for me :)

kingfisher for me :)
I havent seen one of those for years. The colours are so pretty.
-
we used to have one on living somewhere on the beck next to us but not seen him for years. There was some at the country park where I worked and I know a place in Nottinghamshire (a disused canal) that I can go to see them :)
They really are beautiful :)

I'm sorry that the sky lark didn't make it into the finalists' list, it really says "country side" to me.
-
So who decided on the 'short list'? Cheers, Tony.

the page says this:-
These 10 birds have been nominated from an original list of 60 iconic British birds that were voted on last year.
