rosie laid her first egg yesterday a small but well formed egg

my  only dilemma was how to cook and eat it as there are so many ways to eat an egg.
went for hard boiled in the end.
2nd egg will be fried this morning for breakfast.

wonder if she will make me a 3rd today!
peppa the buff Sussex not laid yet hoping she will feel encouraged by rosie.

its official im crazy about chikins

just need to convince the mrs to get more she is insisting 2 is enough!

but got a fair sised garden they have free rome of wile one of us in. and a walk in run of 5x3 meters
yep you could park a car in it,for when we are out. there sleeping quarters is a shed iv converted.

id love to see outher chick personalities as rosie and pepper are so differnt.
plus i realy want a blue egg layer

reasons so far iv used.

1. they might get cold in winter if only 2 of them
2. rosie will get very brudy n hatching some fertile eggs would do her good  :tongue2:
3. I want more (throwing my toys out my pram)  :tongue2:

any more ideas welcome  8)

dont think she will believe o i just found this chicken wondering down the street
looks like she needs a good home. ::)

To be honest took me ages to convince her to get them in first place
and was my sulking that won her round.

we allredy have 2xRabbits a cat and a dopey golden retriever so + 2 chickens 6 pets
she worries about vets bills. one of our rabbits costing a fortune at mo.with on going treatment for her teeth.

though she will eat the occasional egg she feels funny knowing one of our animals has made n wont take that step yet.
offered her half the first one
o well  more for me.

It is said that you should have at least three Hens incase something should happen to one of them the other won't be left on it's own, and it is also know that you should introduce new Hens at least in pairs becuase of bullying, by introducing just the one it may get picked on where if you had two at least any bullying would be shared.

So there's your reason to get at least another two  ;)

I'd just smuggle some newbies in under the cover of darkness!  "New chickens dear?  Don't be silly, they were there all along"!
"The chicken came first—God would look silly sitting on an egg."

Asked OH how long it took him to change his mind about having more chickens, 'a while, their productive unlike rabbits' but he's out there giving them treats, collecting eggs and generally fussing over them, so wait a few more weeks and I'm sure they'll win her over :D

We had 3 from a friend who was moving house and couldn't take them with her.  Then we bought 2 more.  Then we got 3 young chicks, and yesterday we picked up 3 more from a very kind Grannie, as we had lost some hatched eggs.  This is all within the last 7 month.  So yes, it is a bit of rolling ball, once you get one or two.
