they do really speed up the process, you end up with a coil ofapple, I just cut down one side to get rings for drying or in half to bag for freezing.

I've always frozen apples just peeled, cored and sliced, and they do freeze well but with some discolouring. But last year I tried dipping them in a Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) solution before freezing. I still have some of last year's apples in my freezer, and they're still perfectly white. So if you don't want them to discolour, try the Vitamin C. It really works well.

Thanks Shokkyy - I ended up peeling them and letting them sit in acidulated water (I used lemon juice) before patting dry and freezing whole ... I figured there'd be less surface area to discolour if I didn't slice them!  However, the Vit C sounds a good alternative if this doesn't work  :)

We always freeze our Lord Lambournes, and they're as sweet as the day they went in the freezer, after stewing for a few minutes. Nothing else.

It's a small crop this year, so we'll probably not bother though...
