Incubation and rearing. Correct me if I am wrong.
I have Katie Thear's Book.  Which I have skimmed.
  • 1: If I get an automatic turning incubator I just have only check it twice a day.
  • 2: It will take 21 days ish for chicken eggs hatch.
  • 3: It will take a further 4 weeks is (depending on outside temp) till they can out
  • 4: Once the eggs have hatched. Keep em warm check temp and increase hight/reduce heat over 4 weeks.
  • 5: I do not realy have to do to much else to them apart from check twice a day (and fead and water).
  • 6: I could keep them in a windowless garage for the first 4 weeks as long as they have heat and light in the daytime.
    • 7: I can mix the age of my birds (age range two weeks max)

What incubator would you suggest and from where?

    Edited
Er what I meant was am I correct at all the points 1-7?   I just want to be sure.  You know I am paranoid unless I am sure.

sorry Rough, only know about the manuel turning ones, we tend to be a bit controversial and it's worked for us so far

Yes that is pretty much correct. 45% humidity for the first 17 days and then boost it to 65% for the hatch. I take the turner out on the 18th day and place the eggs in an egg carton for the hatch too, makes clean up easier.

And it is best to use a red light in the brooder, holds down picking.

Hi Rough

In a round about way that's everything :D
I tend to leave mine till 6-8 weeks before going out but if we have a good day obviously they go out in the VERY secure rabbit run, magpies, crows as well as seagulls all fly around looking for the chance of an easy meal :(

I have a very tiny 3 egg incy the Rcom3 - suits me as it limits me in hatching (other wise I'd be over run ) It does everything for you but I do Top & Tail turn the eggs 3 times as the turner only does side to side. OH ye an keep it topped up with water
I got it from http://www.flytesofancy.co.uk/chickenhouses/Incubators-Brooders.html
Good delivery etc...

Hope that helps

Sarah :)

OMG  I have gone and done it.  Ordered a Incubator.

OH F

Sent out emails about Scots Grey hatching eggs.
Rang about Dorking and Cream Legbar.

Eggciting and scary.

Does anyone know of a good manicurist or where I can purchase nail bite by the gallon?

My trick is to always tell the other half it was on special, too good an opportunity to miss out on etc... :D
I usually knock at least 1/4 if not half off the price it actually was

Been together 12 years this weekend and he's still not figured it out
