I'm just looking into housing for my hens and ducks and was wondering
what you all use. Do you have a home made affair....are you avid Eglu users...?

Any advice and inspiration most welcome.

You've done it now Cleo ! :)

Home made timber affair for us. But if you have the budget, and it suits your needs, the eglu seems a good buy. :)

Do a search for red mites and you'll see one reason why  :?

Don't know about chickens but would recommend keeping it simple for ducks. They are really not that bothered and don't want or need anything fussy or specific like perches. Don't get anything expensive as you will just resent it when they don't go anywhere near it without forcing them!
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Something resembling a rabbit hutch for the ducks Kate ?

But the chooks are snobs and need something a bit more luxurious. Must be draught-free with ventilation below the roof and perches/nest boxes.

But ducks seem to make more mess and everythign gets soggy quickly  :)

Home made wooden one.  Originally wanted an eglu as I thought they looked rather cool and they have the big advantage against red mite but I'm happy with mine now (touch wood!)

Hi
I have an eglu, which we purchased because we have a badger problem here in the centre of town (got expensive replacing guinea pigs which turned into badger supper)
Of course, the three chooks that came with the eglu soon turned into 6, and a vast run was built so now the eglu is going on ebay and being replaced with a homemade shed.
Eglus don't stop you getting red mite by the way - spent a fun week or so earlier this year with the poultry shield and diatom powder - although we did manage to get rid of them fairly easily!
