Title: Wood ash.
Post by: RubyRed on November 11, 2018, 16:17
Tis the season for using the woodburner. Could I use the ash to put in areas where hens dust bathe. We only use wood with nails or tacks. Thanks

I've not tried it, but ash is so fine and flies about so easily, I would be worried about them breathing it in tbh.

Easy way to get the nails out - a magnet. You can buy them cheaply enough on Ebay. Just drag it through the ashes.

John your a wealth of information because I was going to say that we have a log burner and we don't burn anything but wood some tree wood and some reclaimed timber with many nails I firstly sieve the ash then use my old magnet I got out of an old radio to remove the nails because tractor tyres and nails don't really mix

after sorting the ash I bag it and it goes down the allotments mainly for my onion beds
