how about some winter hardy white lisbon spring onions.  If you sow now should be able to harvest in March.  So just in time for sowing.  Best to sow early I think as this year they have been poor.  

I did plant some salad bowl lettuce for baby leave cutting about 3 weeks ago and they have come up, don't know if they will come up in your area, you being further up the country.  Lettuce are fairly cold tolerant.
