Failed cuttings
We've done a few in the past, just taking a cutting then leaving them in a little vase of water on the window sill. They grow loads of roots then pot them up. Had a couple going nicely a couple of weeks back. I dunno if that's how your meant to do them though

I have been growing geraniums for about 40yrs and i always took the cuttings in august . When i had trimmed them ready for rooting i always left them on the potting bench for 24hrs so that the cut could callous over.
Then i used hormone rooting powder.
If you do this you wont loose many
Cheers

Just as a follow up and to assist a similar thread.
I have followed this advise and covered with a polythene bag and so far look good.

I have also wrapped some in news paper as an experiment as also suggested.  I did use the local paper perhaps i should have used page 3 of the sun for bigger bustier results.

After all these years using topgardeners system i have success,
Unfortunatley i have to clear the shed to check on Mrs B system.

Goes to show there are some clever bu.......,rs on here

My grandmother gave me a cutting from my great grandmothers geranium. It is a lovely rose shaped one and it seems very happy here (the ones she took for herself are really struggling).
The problem or question is:

It has got two 30 cm straight shoots and 3 smaller bushier ones.
Do I cut the straight shoots to make it bushier or just leave it this first year on its own?

I would love to take cuttings from this one this year, when is it best to do it?

Nip out the very top of the tall shoots, which should help it bush out.  I'm afraid I can't help with cuttings as I always seem to kill them!
