Toilet roll tubes

Is there anything that can be sown and grown then planted out in toilet roll tubes?
My mum says leeks but then i thought leeks go into an empty hole and back filled with water?...so you couldnt plant it in a soil filled toilet tube?

oh forgive me i have just found another thread containing this topic in the parsnips thread and it appears its not a good idea.

Dan, providing the tube is covered so the air is not touching the roll then you can use them, I have in the past dug them in, filled them with compost and planted sweetcorn seeds in them, this gives the a slightly better start, however i felt not enough for the trouble so I just dig them in to rot down.

runner beans do ok in them just plant the whole thing in the deck no probs at all.
