I really want to start sowing some seeds on my allotment, but just ound out our water doesn't get turned on for bother couple of weeks. My barell was put in place too late to collect any serious amount of water, so it only has a few inches at the moment.

Should I just wait until the water is turned on on site, so that I can water the sowings as required?

If I do wait, could it cause any crops an issue in terms of timing, I.e. being sowed too late?

take a few bottles of water(old 4lt milk bottles come in handy :) ) down to the plot when you sow the seed. You only need to water the drill before you sow.

Then again I can't think of anything much that wouls be bothered by waiting a couple of weeks.
They usually turn it on the first week in April :)

Sow as many seeds as you can in the plastic trays they sell EVERYTHING in in supermarkets, all that is apart from root crops.   That way you can monitor their watery needs and give the little darlin's a head start.   Don't forget to maker holes in the bases.     Cheers,     Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Last year we had a bit of a leak on our allotment and it was mid May before they turned the water on. I had to carry jerry cans to use. This year I am in a better situation as I managed to get a few more of those blue water butts so have 5 - even so this will not last long if the water is not turned on. With prices being what they are for water, we are starting to think the council will be telling us they are no longer supplying it.

As already said take some bottles of water with you, you wont need as much as you think, there are plenty of allotment plot around the country without a water supply
