Popped in to the allotment yesterday after work just for a quick look and got given 20 comfrey root cuttings which was very nice  the chap that gave them to me said just plant them straight out and leave them they'll all take, however I'm thinking more along the lines of potting them up and then planting them once they start to grow. What are peoples thoughts have you ever had root cuttings fail?

No  even bits left behind if you move them will grow, so my advise would just be to bung 'em in, save your compost for something else

Thanks Mos now to decide where to put the other 10 had only planned on putting 10 plants in originally, think the kids garden may have to shrink a bit

They will grow anywhere -- how about just outside your gate?

10 will be going in next to one of the compost bins which I had planned on, may have to pot 10 up whilst I decide, got an area under a mature apple tree (which needs a serious pruning) but it needs clearing of brambles and bindweed so that is an option.
