I have realised that the sowing instructions I have got with seeds that i bought on e-bay are completly potty.For arnica it says they like acid,neutral and alkaline soils and then goes on to say they dislike chalky soil.Aren't chalky soils alkaline?.then it says they MAY benefit from stratification(if they'r guessing why mention it).
To cut to the chase does anybody have experiance of germinating arnica montana(mountaine tobacco).I bet trillium knows.

You're right, I have grown it, but as a started plant. And once established, they look after themselves. They thrive in poor soils which is why they're normally found on heaths and moors, hence no need for a specific pH level.

And the reason I got a started plant was because they're slow to germinate from seeds. But they will germinate if you follow these directions:

No need to dig up the root unless you're making your own creams or remedies as they're perennial plants. Just remember to water it for a while after planting out so it can put out good roots, then stop watering. And do give it a bit of space as it will steadily increase the clump size. I found that out the hard way
