I sowed some foxgloves about 3 weeks ago, not a sign yet, do they normally take a while? :)

If you want to be happy forever - take up gardening!

Are you sure you've got the sowing time right?
I collected self-sown seedlings from the garden in March and potted them up. They've now gone out but might not flower till next year.. The mummy plants flowered last Spring/Summer so the seed must have fallen then and I noticed it germinating in Autumn and the baby plants over-wintered.

Hi

I sowed many last november, over wintered inside & just planted out.

Some I planted a month ago, take a couple of weeks to come up.

The beat way to sow, i find is to take a small pot of compost, firm down, water.

Sprinkle lightly over the seeds thinly (Joke, not easy to sow them thin)  :D

Cover with a light dusting of vermiculite, as I think they need light to germinate.

I normally let them get quite big, before thining & transplanting, as tiny, minute seedlings.

Have just finished pricking out 40, another 100 to go !

If they fail, I know I have some home grown seeds to spare, bought them on fleabay.
Man said, a few hundred seeds, MILLIONS in the packet ! Colour unknown, so if yours fail, PM me.  :)

All the seed from last years plants, which I sprinkled over the border seemed to germinate quite easily in April, then when it turned very dry I struggled to keep the border damp enough for them :(  but I'm sure that a few will eventually grow as there were thousands of seeds.

My volunteer foxgloves have appeared up to 20' away from my neighbour's single plant having seeded either over or through a 6' hedge. They are every-bloomin'-where!
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Could be much worse, Jay, they could be dock or dandelions or goutweed. I'd happily take free foxgloves and I'll send you the dozens of hollyhocks I have growing everywhere.
