have any of our lads and lasses got a merry tiller with a honda engine fitted? if so, what model honda is it? gx120 maybe? :D

I have a Howard 220 with a G150 Honda engine. A huge improvement on the villiers.

it would be good to know which model fits straight on, without too much faddling around. i could also start looking around in the trade to see how cheaply i could get them.

I think its any "Q" shaft engine will have the same foot print and shaft position and diameter (3/4") as there is very little in the way of body work they should drop on and go.

the shaft sizes can be very different, also shaft hieght from bottom of engine. :cry:

Shaft size is generator some sort of perverse taper ,25mm or "Q" then all the British configurations.  all of which prevent interchangeability.

well it can be done i see lots on ebay with honda engines,
i might strip mine down soon cus i'm looking to get rid of it i will compare the 2 engines and let you know,but knowing me it might be a while
