« on: June 23, 2008, 22:42 »
how much can I expect to pay for a small greenhouse when we get the bloomin' allotment? :? and wheres the best place to get one?

I'm just trying to cost things out ready for when it all happens.  I'm hoping we can sell the chuck eggs to pay for their upkeep and I know friends and family will buy any veg the little'un will grow to pay for more seeds and plants :D only pennies but hopfully he'll learn about life this way :D

Thanks

Freecycle is great if you're lucky to find one being offered.

We got ours off ebay. About £45 for a 6x8 but I had to drive about 35 miles and dismantle myself.

Depends if you want a new one or not and how much you can do.
If you need it delivered then it limits your options somewhat.

you have no idea what a stunning bargain you got. Once upon a dya a 6x8 s/hand greenhouse went for about £50, buyer collects

I watched ebay for about 2 months, the average 6x8 greenhouse was going for at least £75 and in some cases went as high as £140. The average was about £90 - £100, and I watched about two dozen over 6 or so weeks.

AT one stage i was preparing to shell out about £120 and travel up to 100 miles for one. The demand really did do thru the roof, and so did prices.

In the end i saw an advert in the local paper, £70 for 6x8 including base and staging, a bargain.

6x8 15 bids £56  (38 mins)

8ft by 6ft  14 Bids £102.00 17h 41m

We waited and waited and waited and managed to nab it !!

It was a long way but worth it. We knew at the time it was a real bargain but I hate paying for anything else ! ...unless we have to.

I would say keep an eye out of Freecycle. I got a 8x6 one off there, and so far its only cost us about £50 to replace glass and buy some more clips for the glass. I love my greenhouse!
