What Crop?
« on: June 23, 2008, 10:08 »
Driving through Dorset yesterday, towards Bridport, I spotted a couple of fields planted out with a pink/lilac crop. From the car it looked a bit like tulips - anyone know what it is?

We have lavender farms here that have lilac (well lavender) haze all over the fields. Very beautiful. :)

Returning from Bournemouth last week, I noticed similar, but they were poppies.

I remarked at the time to Mrs. DD. as they were not the usual red ones you get that spontaneously appear, but purple & appeared cultivated.

Hopefully not been grown for opium, but I suppose someone has to grow them for the seed on poppyseed loaves!

Welcome to the forums BTW, Mark.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Answering my own question here....Just been to the barbers for a clip, and in his Daily Mail is an article about Opium Poppies being grown in Hampshire, Hertfordshire etc for the pharmaceutical industry. Those are what I saw.
