good morning one off my neighbours has a walnut tree about 5 yrs old ,its well established but the leaves are dropping of it in clumps there is a slight darkening off the leaves but nothing over the top.Has anyone heard of this before please,by the way she has never had a nut of it because she cant beat the squirrels to them lol

hmm thats a bit strange. A piccy of both side of an infected leaf would be useful.

There is a specific group of diseases that hit walnuts, the main one being Walnut Leaf Blotch, but that is usually characterised by tiny dark brown spots growing into yellow blotches on the upper surfaces of leaves, and a corresponding , faint, grey discoloration on the underneath, but it does  ccause defoliation  as a later symptom.

Theres a related, far less common disease of tropical walnuts called Walnut Leaf Blight, which looks similar, but has smaller darker patches. This is almost unknown in the uk (note  - ALMOST!!)

Apart from that, im baffled...............

Interesting this

I have a walnut tree  which I got at a plant sale
Its been ina pot for 4 years

Planted it out at the plot
All ok, then it split at the root, (two main stems)
Lashed it back together, seems to be ok
Cambian layer undamged

does drop leaves early and then go again
Likes lots of water

Squirrels, such an immature plant not had that problem yet
